Why Choose The SSM-iCON Smart Meter

Value Elements
  • Accurate Ultrasonic Gas Measurement: Uses ultrasonic measurement technology with no moving measuring parts, providing reliable natural gas volume measurement with reduced mechanical wear.

  • Advanced Remote Connectivity: Supports NB-IoT and Cat-M1 cellular communication or Aclara network options, helping utilities remotely access gas consumption data.

  • Enhanced Customer Safety: Integrated monitoring sensors and a shut-off valve enable gas flow interruption in response to specified temperature, pressure or seismic events, as well as remote commands.

  • Long-Term Battery Performance: Designed with a 20-year metrological battery and replaceable communication battery rated for up to 20 years, helping reduce routine maintenance requirements.

  • Flexible Communication Options: Replaceable communication modules allow utilities to adapt connectivity as network requirements evolve, without replacing the entire gas meter.

  • Designed for Outdoor Conditions: Durable aluminum construction, IP67 protection and an operating temperature range of -35°C to +55°C support demanding outdoor natural gas metering applications.

  • Future-Focused Gas Compatibility: Suitable for natural gas, renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen blends up to 20%, supporting evolving gas distribution networks.

Comparison vs. Next Best Alternative
  • Compared to Traditional Diaphragm Gas Meters: Ultrasonic measurement eliminates moving measuring parts, reducing mechanical wear associated with conventional gas metering technology.

  • Reduced Manual Meter Reading: Remote communication capabilities help minimize the need for on-site meter readings, improving operational efficiency for natural gas utilities.

  • Enhanced Safety Features: An integrated shut-off valve and monitoring sensors provide additional gas flow control capabilities compared to conventional meters without these features.

  • Greater Network Flexibility: Replaceable communication modules offer more adaptability than meters with fixed communication technology.

  • Reduced Maintenance Requirements: Long-life batteries and solid-state ultrasonic measurement help reduce maintenance demands over the meter's operating life.

Where Do I Use This Product and Why?
  • Residential Natural Gas Metering: Provides ultrasonic gas consumption measurement for homes connected to low-pressure natural gas distribution networks.

  • Smart Metering Infrastructure: Supports utility smart metering initiatives through remote data communication, reducing reliance on manual meter reading.

  • Natural Gas Distribution Modernization: Helps Canadian gas utilities transition from traditional mechanical meters to connected ultrasonic metering technology.

  • Residential Meter Replacement Programs: Offers an alternative to conventional diaphragm gas meters where remote connectivity, integrated monitoring and long-term reliability are priorities.

  • Renewable Natural Gas Networks: Supports measurement of natural gas and biomethane (RNG), making it relevant to utilities incorporating renewable gases into their distribution systems.
